QUEBEC CITY — Multiple fatalities were reported by police during a barbaric attack on a mosque in Quebec City, Canada.
Around 40 people were inside the Centre Culturel Islamique de Quebec in the city’s Sainte-Foy neighborhood on Sunday night. A witness reportedly told Reuters that up to three gunmen suddenly opened fire inside the building during the evening prayer service.
At least six people were killed in the shooting, and eight more reported injured. The victims were between 35 and 70 years old, according to Quebec authorities.
Heavily armed tactical police were called to the scene and stormed into building. They later arrested two suspects, one of whom was 27 years old and wielding an AK-47, according to Le Soleil. A motive for the attack has yet to be determined.
The mosque had previously been targeted by vandals in June 2016, when a pig’s head was left on the doorstep during Ramadan.
