Denzel Washington wins outstanding performance be a male actor in a leading role at tonight’s SAG Awards.
Not only did the man bring us to tears with his performance, but he also directed the film as well.
The Fences actor beat out Manchester by the Sea's Casey Affleck, Hacksaw Ridge's Andrew Garfield, La La Land's Ryan Gosling and Captain Fantastic's Viggo Mortensen for the title of best actor in a leading role. He joked saying QUOTE: "I'm a God-fearing man, I'm supposed to have faith, but I didn't have faith," on not preparing a speech he said "I'm getting choked up!" and even without any preparation, his speech was still nothing short of emotional.
Denzel who also directed the film mentioned he first saw the screenplay SEVEN years ago and continued to say, "We're just actors. I'm famous and all that kind of stuff, but i have the same fear, opening night, first preview that anyone else has."
Fences won big at tonight’s show, as Viola Davis also took home an award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.

Viola Davis and Mahershala Ali win big at the SAG Awards taking home the awards for Best Female and Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
The performances this year have been flawless and two of those performances were in Moonlight and Fences.
Viola Davis took home the Actor for best female actor in a supporting Role for her tear jerking performance in Fences and took time to thank August Wilson who was the brilliant mind and playwright who brought Fences to life.
She thanked August for shining a light on the average man who may not achieve monumental success that gets encapsulated in history, but still has a story worth telling.
Another big winner tonight was Mahershala Ali who took home the Actor for Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in Moonlight. He gave a beautiful speech about accepting differences and acknowledged how detrimental it can be when we persecute one another for those differences. He expressed that he was so grateful to play a gentlemen who saw a young man folding into himself as the result of persecution from his community and lifted him up.

In the wake of the injustices that have taken place over the past few days, Mahershala said that we can choose to take differences as an opportunity to see what makes us all unique or we can go to war over those differences. He added that when you are able to see the beauty in other’s differences, you are able to grow as one and love one another. A beautiful speech indeed. The 2017 SAG awards went down at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles tonight and in case you missed the show, no need to worry, because we’ve got you covered with a winners recap.
The SAG awards have come and gone, but the winners will live on forever.

It was a night of huge surprises and humble speeches at the SAG awards this year in every category, so let’s kick off the winners recap with the big wins for the ladies. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss continues her reign as the queen of comedy thanks to her “Best actress in a TV comedy” win for her work in Veep. Equally deserving of her win was first-time SAG nominee Claire Foy, who took home the Actor for Best Actress in a TV drama for her role as a young Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix favorite, “The Crown”, and gave special thanks to her co-star, Matt Smith.

On the film side of things, the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role went to Viola Davis for her incredible work in Fences, meanwhile the big win for best performance by an actress went to Emma Stone for La La Land.
It definitely looks like Emma’s on her way to that Oscar gold.

Moving on to the men’s side, John Lithgow won Best Actor in a TV drama for his work on The Crown, while Shameless star William H. Macy took home the Actor for Best Actor in a comedy.

As for film performances, a very deserving Mahershala Ali took home the Actor for his supporting work in Moonlight, and Denzel Washington looked genuinely surprised and thrilled to take home the huge honor of Best performance in a motion picture....
