It takes a special kind of racist to walk into a church half naked and make up a story about black men raping you. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Hasan Piker, and Aida Rodriguez, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"A teenager who claimed she was dragged into woods by three black men in ski masks and raped has admitted the story was untrue, police say.

Breana Harmon Talbott created a media frenzy after walking into a church in just her shirt, bra and underwear, before describing a vicious sexual assault.
But police in Denison, a city in Texas, say the 18-year-old admitted it was all a lie during questioning and have since charged her.

“The case quickly gathered regional attention due to the severity of the alleged crime and rumours quickly begin to spin out of control through social media,” said Denison police chief Jay Burch.

“[But] almost immediately, Ms Talbott's story and allegations began to unravel. Within only a day or two, detectives had doubts as to most of Ms Talbott's allegations.””*

Now watch this mashup proving the opposite… Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"President Donald Trump tweeted a message of support for International Women’s Day on Wednesday. It didn’t go down well.

With his woeful track record of sexist and misogynistic behavior, Trump’s claim to have “tremendous respect” for women rang hollow for many Twitter users.

…

Hundreds seized on his call to honor “the critical role of women here in America and around the world” by referencing his offensive hot mic comments on the infamous 2005 bus ride with former “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush.

They also recalled that image of Trump signing an anti-abortion executive order, surrounded entirely by white men.”*

Poor people don’t fund Jason Chaffetz’s campaigns, so they can take a long walk off a short pier. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) is proposing a quick fix for low-income Americans unable to afford coverage under President Donald Trump’s newly proposed health care law: Don’t buy an iPhone.

The American Health Care Act, unveiled by House Republican leaders Monday, offers less financial assistance to low-income people than former President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act, so it would likely result in millions of Americans losing the health coverage they have today.

But the Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee said Tuesday that Americans who might struggle to afford insurance under the GOP plan simply need to make the choice to “invest in health care.”

“Americans have choices, and they’ve got to make a choice,” Chaffetz said Tuesday on CNN. “So rather than getting that new iPhone that they just love and want to go spend hundreds of dollars on that, maybe they should invest in their own health care. They’ve got to make those decisions themselves.”

Having to choose between a smartphone and health care coverage is a scenario Chaffetz likely can’t relate to. With a net worth of at least $320,000 in 2014, he makes less than many of his colleagues in Congress and was only the 301st wealthiest lawmaker based on financial disclosures that year. But he still lives well above the median income in America (about $56,500 in 2015) and enjoys comprehensive health care benefits afforded to members of Congress.

CNN host Alisyn Camerota asked Chaffetz if Americans might have more health care access but less coverage under Trump’s new health care bill.”*

Trump's new health care plan is brutal. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"President Donald Trump on Tuesday endorsed Republican legislation to replace the Obamacare healthcare law but it faced a rebellion by conservative groups and lawmakers who denounced it, complicating its chances for passage in the U.S. Congress.

Republican U.S. House of Representatives leaders on Monday unveiled legislation to do away with Obamacare, eliminating the requirement that most Americans obtain medical insurance and creating a system of tax credits to coax people to purchase private insurance on the open market.

Speaker Paul Ryan said he could guarantee that he had enough votes to win passage of the measure in the House, adding that conservatives should be excited about the plan to repeal and replace Democratic former President Barack Obama's signature domestic policy achievement.

But conservatives slammed the proposal, with Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee calling it "exactly the type of back-room dealing and rushed process that we criticized Democrats for."

Trump said the plan was open to negotiation but said it had already earned support "from everybody." Vice President Mike Pence described it as a "framework," signaling it was far from its final form, and Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price called it "a work in progress."

The proposal represented a key step toward carrying out pledges by Trump and congressional Republicans to dismantle Obamacare.

But lawmakers face pressure from constituents not to throw America's healthcare system into chaos, and some conservatives complained the bill did not go far enough in removing government from the healthcare industry. Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky decried it as "Obamacare Lite."

Democrats denounced the proposal, saying it would take away health insurance from millions of Americans and benefit the rich.

Conservative groups including Heritage Action for America, the Club for Growth, Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Partners, backed by the billionaire Republican donor Koch brothers, urged its defeat for different reasons.

The Club for Growth derided it as "RyanCare" and a "warmed-over substitute for government-run healthcare.””*

Trump’s chief strategist Steve Bannon is “Camp Of The Saints” racist. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"Stephen Bannon, President Donald Trump’s chief strategist and the driving force behind the administration’s controversial ban on travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries, has a favorite metaphor he uses to describe the largest refugee crisis in human history.

“It’s been almost a Camp of the Saints-type invasion into Central and then Western and Northern Europe,” he said in October 2015.

“The whole thing in Europe is all about immigration,” he said in January 2016. “It’s a global issue today — this kind of global Camp of the Saints.”

“It’s not a migration,” he said later that January. “It’s really an invasion. I call it the Camp of the Saints.”

“When we first started talking about this a year ago,” he said in April 2016, “we called it the Camp of the Saints. ... I mean, this is Camp of the Saints, isn’t it?”

Bannon has agitated for a host of anti-immigrant measures. In his previous role as executive chairman of the right-wing news site Breitbart — which he called a “platform for the alt-right,” the online movement of white nationalists — he made anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim news a focus.

But the top Trump aide’s repeated references to The Camp of the Saints, an obscure 1973 novel by French author Jean Raspail, reveal even more about how he understands the world. The book is a cult favorite on the far right, yet it’s never found a wider audience. There’s a good reason for that: It’s breathtakingly racist.

“[This book is] racist in the literal sense of the term. It uses race as the main characterization of characters,” said Cécile Alduy, professor of French at Stanford University and an expert on the contemporary French far right. “It describes the takeover of Europe by waves of immigrants that wash ashore like the plague.”

The book, she said, “reframes everything as the fight to death between races.””*

Ben Carson’s understanding of slavery is questionable. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"Ben Carson’s first full week as secretary of Housing and Urban Development got off to a rough start on Monday after he described African slaves as “immigrants” during his first speech to hundreds of assembled department employees. The remark, which came as part of a 40-minute address on the theme of America as “a land of dreams and opportunity,” was met with swift outrage online.

Mr. Carson turned his attention to slavery after describing photographs of poor immigrants displayed at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. These new arrivals worked long hours, six or seven days a week, with little pay, he said. And before them, there were slaves.

“That’s what America is about, a land of dreams and opportunity,’’ he said. “There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less. But they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great-granddaughters, might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land.”

The comparison was first reported by USA Today and quickly drew the ire of social media users who attacked the secretary, who is African-American, for what they saw as racially insensitive comments. On Twitter, the comedian and actress Whoopi Goldberg recommended Mr. Carson watch the 1980s mini-series “Roots.””*

He also swore Obama was born in a foreign country so… Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"The White House has asked Congress to investigate Donald Trump’s allegation, presented without evidence, that Barack Obama ordered illegal wiretapping of Trump Tower during the 2016 presidential election.

On Saturday, a spokesman for Obama said the former president had not ordered any such surveillance. On Sunday, a former director of national intelligence, James Clapper, went further, denying the existence of any surveillance order at Trump Tower, at least during his tenure.

In his demand for an investigation, the White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, did not provide any evidence for the president’s claims, but said reports about “potentially politically motivated investigations” were “very troubling”.

He did not specify what reports were in question, though late last week, rightwing radio and news sites, including Breitbart, which was recently run by the president’s chief strategist, circulated the idea that Obama had tried to undermine the Trump campaign.”*

Now with fewer Muslims! Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"President Trump’s executive order barring immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries experienced nearly universal defeat in the federal courts. On Monday, he issued a revised version of that order, but it still suffers from a fundamental, and fatal, flaw: It constitutes unlawful religious discrimination.

On the surface, this revised order looks different from the first version. It explicitly exempts Iraq from the travel ban, thus reducing the number of affected countries to six, as well as lawful permanent residents (that is, green card holders) and people who have visas. It no longer categorically bars Syrian refugees or includes a religious test to determine which refugees may enter the country. And in a marked departure from the earlier order, it goes into effect in 10 days, so that the chaos that unfolded in airports around the world when the January order became effective presumably won’t happen again.

These changes are, no doubt, intended to address the due process concerns that led the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to affirm a lower-court ruling that put a hold on part of the original order. But while these changes are important, they do not fix the core problem with the executive order: The administration is waging an all-out assault on Islam and Muslims.

That’s because anti-Muslim bias and bigotry that characterized the original travel ban remain in this revised version. The order is still limited to only Muslim-majority countries: namely, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. Residents of those countries — and only those countries — will be severely restricted in their ability to travel into the United States for 90 days. Left off are the predominately Christian countries that the State Department lists as “Terrorist Safe Havens” like Colombia, the Philippines and Venezuela.”*

Multiple sources in the White House say Trump has been having fits of rage. Aides have been reported crying. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"President Trump spent the weekend at “the winter White House,” Mar-a-Lago, the secluded Florida castle where he is king. The sun sparkles off the glistening lawn and warms the russet clay Spanish tiles, and the steaks are cooked just how he likes them (well done). His daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner — celebrated as calming influences on the tempestuous president — joined him. But they were helpless to contain his fury.

Trump was mad — steaming, raging mad.

Trump’s young presidency has existed in a perpetual state of chaos. The issue of Russia has distracted from what was meant to be his most triumphant moment: his address last Tuesday to a joint session of Congress. And now his latest unfounded accusation — that Barack Obama tapped Trump’s phones during last fall’s campaign — had been denied by the former president and doubted by both allies and fellow Republicans.

When Trump ran into Christopher Ruddy on the golf course and later at dinner Saturday, he vented to his friend. “This will be investigated,” Ruddy recalled Trump telling him. “It will all come out. I will be proven right.”

“He was pissed,” said Ruddy, the chief executive of Newsmax, a conservative media company. “I haven’t seen him this angry.””*

The ruling is temporary. How long will it last? Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"A federal judge in Texas has temporarily blocked an attempt by state health officials to remove Medicaid funds from Planned Parenthood, allowing the women's health provider to remain in the federal program at least until a lawsuit is settled.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said he will appeal the decision, which he said "is disappointing and flies in the face of basic human decency," the Dallas Morning News reported.

In trying to justify its action, state officials have pointed to undercover videos recorded by anti-abortion activists in Houston. Texas Health and Human Services Inspector General Stuart Bowen referred to "misconduct" in the videos in a letter notifying Planned Parenthood of the defunding plans in December, as we reported.

A grand jury found no evidence of wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood and instead indicted two people who recorded the videos for tampering with a government record and illegally offering to purchase human organs, as The Two-Way has reported.

The indictments were later dismissed on technical grounds, as we also reported.”*

Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos appears to be one of first undocumented immigrants deported under the Trump administration. Ben Mankiewicz, Hannah Cranston, Brett Erlich, and Aida Rodriguez, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos had been in the United States for nearly two decades before she was deported Wednesday to her native country of Mexico.

The married mother of two is thought to be one of the first undocumented immigrants to be deported since US President Donald Trump signed an executive order in January cracking down on illegal immigration.

Her supporters say the deportation shows that Trump's policy needlessly tears families apart and fails to prioritize dangerous offenders. Here's what we know about the case so far…

The role of President Trump's executive order tightening enforcement of illegal immigration laws is another point of contention.
Under the new administration's policy announced last month, any undocumented immigrant convicted or charged with a crime that hasn't been adjudicated could be deported. Under the Obama administration, only undocumented immigrants convicted of a felony, serious misdemeanor or multiple misdemeanors were prioritized for deportation.

ICE said the executive order had nothing to do with it. In multiple statements on the matter, the agency has cited her felony conviction, her 2013 removal order and a focus on removing people with felony convictions and final orders of removal.
Maldonado and other supporters, including Phoenix's mayor, believe Trump's executive order had everything to do with it.”*

Racists think everything is an existential threat to white people. Ben Mankiewicz, Hannah Cranston, Brett Erlich, and Aida Rodriguez, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"The trailer for Netflix’s upcoming series Dear White People has struck a chord with white supremacists. Many are now canceling their service and using the Twitter hashtag to publicize it.

On Wednesday, Netflix dropped the first look at the show based on the 2014 movie of the same name. It didn’t take long for people to start protesting with their wallets.

Why all the fury? Well, Dear White People follows black college student Sam White, who hosts a radio show about being a minority while attending a largely white university. The show’s trailer teases White’s broadcast about acceptable Halloween costumes which include pirates and “slutty nurses.” As for unacceptable: dressing up in black face.

Soon after the trailer was released, the bemoaning began on Twitter. Members of the self-proclaimed “alt-right,” otherwise known as white supremacists, were concerned about white people’s portrayal in the show. They quickly organized and spoke out in opposition of the “anti-white show” that “promotes white genocide.”

Well-known Donald Trump supporter and Twitter personality @bakedalaska tweeted out a screenshot of his cancellation message. It quickly took on the whiter parts of the internet.”*

The massacre doesn’t exist. It never happened. It’s Republican fan fiction used to drum up support for Trump’s Muslim ban. Ben Mankiewicz, Hannah Cranston, Brett Erlich, and Aida Rodriguez, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"After Kellyanne Conway falsely said on three separate occasions that people died in a terror attack in Bowling Green, Kentucky, liberals and opponents of the new administration mocked her gaffe by pledging to never forget the event that never happened.

But, for supporters of President Donald Trump, the nonviolence that occurred on that non-tragic day has shaped their worldview. According to the latest national poll from Public Policy Polling, 51 percent of Trump voters say the so-called Bowling Green massacre showed why the president’s immigration policy is needed.

The poll’s findings corroborated previous surveys, which have found that Republican voters have relied on fiction to justify their policy positions.

A 2015 PPP poll found that 30 percent of Republican primary voters supported bombing Agrabah, the made up home of Disney’s “Aladdin.” In that same poll, more than a third of Republican voters indicated they believed Trump’s false claim that thousands of Muslims in New Jersey were cheering on the rooftops on 9/11.

The most recent poll can be interpreted to mean that the GOP base is perfectly content with living in the world of “alternative facts.” Only 23 percent of Trump voters said that they disagreed with the premise that the Bowling Green massacre warranted the executive order that placed an immigration ban on seven Muslim-majority countries, while 20 percent of Trump voters said that they were unsure if the terrorist attack that never happened was a factor in Trump’s decision.

Hillary Clinton voters may have been better able to identify the trick question. Only 2 percent of Clinton voters said that the Bowling Green massacre justified the immigration ban.”*

They’re doing just fine, thank you. Ben Mankiewicz, Hannah Cranston, Brett Erlich, and Aida Rodriguez, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"President Donald Trump may have inadvertently done Nordstrom a favor this week when he slammed the Seattle-based retailer on Twitter — shares have risen by 7 percent.

After the department store announced it would not carry Ivanka Trump's spring collection — characterizing the move as a business decision — the Trump camp disputed Nordstrom's claim that her merchandise wasn't selling well.

Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway added more fuel to the fire Thursday when she delivered what she called a "commercial" in support of the brand during a live TV interview. Threats of boycotts from both pro- and anti-Trump factions surfaced on social media, but the dust-up spared the retailer's stock. In fact, after dipping briefly, shares rebounded.

Retail experts say the reason Nordstrom stock shook off the controversy while other companies have seen their share prices fall after being on the receiving end of a disgruntled tweet was simple: Unlike Lockheed Martin, which depends on U.S. government contracts, or General Motors, whose investments in Mexico could be threatened by an import tax, there isn't much Donald Trump can do to hurt the fortunes of a high-end department store chain.
Retail analysts dismissed the idea that the decision to drop Ivanka Trump's brand was politically motivated.”*

This man cannot stop lying. Constantly. Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY Sean Spicer asserted at Thursday’s press briefing that Iran had attacked a U.S. naval vessel, as part of his argument defending the administration’s bellicose announcement that Iran is “on notice.”

National Security Adviser Michael Flynn on Wednesday said he was “officially putting Iran on notice” following the country’s ballistic missile test and an attack on a Saudi naval vessel by Houthi rebels in Yemen (the Houthis are tenuously aligned with Iran’s government but are distinct from it).

The White House press corps wanted to know what being put “on notice” entailed, and Spicer responded by claiming that Iran’s government took actions against a U.S. naval vessel, which would be an act of war. “I think General Flynn was really clear yesterday that Iran has violated the Joint Resolution, that Iran’s additional hostile actions that it took against our Navy vessel are ones that we are very clear are not going to sit by and take,” he said. “I think that we will have further updates for you on those additional actions.”

Major Garrett of CBS News quietly corrected him, saying “a Saudi vessel,” and Spicer then responded almost inaudibly: “Sorry, thank you, yes a Saudi vessel. Yes, that’s right.” He did not in any way address his false claim that it was an Iranian attack, however.”*

National Security Advisor Michael Flynn just put Iran “on notice." Trump attacked Hillary for invading Iraq. Now he's pounding the war drums for Iran. Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"The Trump administration has said it was “officially putting Iran on notice” in reaction to an Iranian missile test and an attack on a Saudi warship by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen but gave no details about how Washington intended to respond.

The threat was made on Wednesday by the national security adviser, Michael Flynn, in his first public statement since taking office.

Speaking in the White House briefing room, Flynn said a missile launch on Sunday and a Houthi attack on a Saudi frigate on Monday underlined Iran’s “destabilizing behavior across the Middle East.”.

Flynn did not specify how the new administration would respond. Asked for clarification, the White House spokesman, Sean Spicer, said the president wanted to make sure the Iranians “understood we are not going to sit by and not act on their actions”.

At a White House briefing, senior administration officials repeatedly refused to rule out any options for a US response, including military intervention.

“There are a large number of options available to the administration,” one senior official said. “We’re going to take appropriate action.”

Asked if measures under consideration included a military option, the official replied: “We are considering a whole range of options.””*

Trump may have threatened to send the US military to fight “bad hombres” in Mexico. Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"Donald Trump spoke of sending troops south of the border to take care of “bad hombres” while on the telephone with his Mexican counterpart, according to a transcript cited by the Associated Press.

Trump was said to have made either an offer – or a veiled threat – of the US military weighing in to fight Mexican gangs in a conversation on Friday that Enrique Peña Nieto’s office later described as “constructive”.

According to reports that were apparently based on a leaked White House document, the US president told Peña Nieto: “You have a bunch of bad hombres down there. You aren’t doing enough to stop them. I think your military is scared. Our military isn’t, so I just might send them down to take care of it.”

The overall tone of the conversation is unknown and who the “hombres” are is unclear but in a separate report Mexican journalist Dolía Estévez said it referred to drug cartels.

It portends a further souring of relations between Mexico and Trump, who partly built his election campaign on vilifying Mexicans and promising to make the southern neighbour pay for a border wall.”*

Trump got all Trumpy with the Prime Minister of Australia, hanging up on him. Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"It should have been one of the most congenial calls for the new commander in chief — a conversation with the leader of Australia, one of America’s staunchest allies, at the end of a triumphant week.

Instead, President Trump blasted Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull over a refugee agreement and boasted about the magnitude of his electoral college win, according to senior U.S. officials briefed on the Saturday exchange. Then, 25 minutes into what was expected to be an hour-long call, Trump abruptly ended it.

At one point, Trump informed Turnbull that he had spoken with four other world leaders that day — including Russian President Vladimir Putin — and that “this was the worst call by far.”

Trump’s behavior suggests that he is capable of subjecting world leaders, including close allies, to a version of the vitriol he frequently employs against political adversaries and news organizations in speeches and on Twitter.”*
